AI Prompts For The Watch Collector

Your watch collection has more to say about you than you think.

Your watch collection has more to say about you than you think.

I’ve been playing around with AI lately here at MidlifeCrisisWatches — and honestly? It's become one of the most fun tools in my collecting arsenal. So I put together 4 starting prompts specifically designed for watch people, by watch people.

Whether you want to decode what your collection says about your personality, visualize a watch in a different case size before you buy, experiment with summer straps without spending a dime, or authenticate a Datejust you're eyeing on the secondary market — these prompts are your starting point.

This is just the beginning. Please comment on the post and share your thoughts and prompts.

Prompt 1 — Collection Analysis & Personality Profile

"I've uploaded a list of my watch collection. Please analyze it and give me a thoughtful breakdown across three areas: (1) Collection Overview — what brands, complications, styles, and price tiers are represented, and any notable gaps or patterns; (2) Collection Philosophy — what my choices suggest about how I think about watches (tool watches vs. dress watches, heritage vs. modern, restraint vs. variety, etc.); and (3) Collector Personality — what this collection says about me as a person, my lifestyle, my values, and what I likely care about beyond watches. Be specific and use the actual watches on my list to support your observations. Don't be afraid to be candid."

Prompt 2 — Size Simulation on Wrist

"I've uploaded a photo of me wearing my watch, which has a [XX]mm case. Using this exact photo as a reference — my wrist size, skin tone, and the watch's proportions — please generate three photorealistic images showing how this same watch would look on my wrist at 38mm, 40mm, and 42mm. Keep everything else identical (strap, dial, setting, lighting) so the size comparison is clean and accurate. If any of those sizes would look significantly better or worse for my wrist, please note that after the images."

Prompt 3 — Strap Inspiration for Spring & Summer

"I've uploaded a photo of my watch. Please generate four photorealistic images of this watch wearing four different strap variations that you think would look great on it. Style the suggestions with spring and summer in mind — think colors, textures, and materials that feel warm-weather appropriate (e.g., NATO fabrics, rubber, canvas, lighter leather tones, pastels, earthy neutrals). For each option, briefly explain why you chose that strap — the color reasoning, the material, and what kind of occasion or outfit it pairs well with. Prioritize combinations that are both visually striking and wearable."

Prompt 4 — Authenticity & Condition AssessmentPlease note that this should never take the place of an in-person authenticity check.

"I've uploaded a photo of a Rolex Datejust I'm considering purchasing. Please do two things: (1) Authenticity Check — based on what's visible in the photo, assess whether this watch appears genuine. Reference specific details like the dial printing, cyclops lens alignment and magnification, crown and crown guards, case finishing, date wheel font, bracelet construction, and any other tells you can evaluate from this image. Be direct about your confidence level. (2) Condition & Flaw Assessment — regardless of authenticity, point out every visible flaw, scratch, blemish, or area of concern you can identify. Highlight anything I should ask the seller about before purchasing. Please be thorough — I'd rather know too much than too little."
